JD Bank Helps Vietnam Veterans Replace Stolen Items Used for Patriotic Ceremonies

JENNINGS, La. – In February, the unthinkable happened to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1058. Vandals stole the trailer where many of the veterans’ flags, banners and other valuables used for patriotic ceremonies are stored. The damaged trailer was eventually recovered by law enforcement, but the precious items used by VVA Chapter 1058 for events throughout Jeff Davis Parish, including the Fallen Warrior Ceremony, were lost forever.

“This VVA Chapter provides such a valuable service to our community, delivering gift baskets for veterans in local nursing homes, attending funerals in uniforms and always being there when asked. It is disgraceful what happened and JD Bank is honored to be able to replace the stolen,” “said Boyd Boudreaux, President & CEO of JD Bank.

JD Bank obtained a list of the stolen items from Chapter Treasurer George Conner and delivered a check for $5,000 to replace the items. “We’re so grateful to JD Bank for stepping up to help us,” Conner said. “Our veterans are all about continuing our public service and this made it possible for us to get back to helping our fellow veterans very quickly,” Conner added.

Tips For If Disaster Strikes

Source: Better Business Bureau Serving Southwest Louisiana, Inc.

The Better Business Bureau and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation offer these tips on what to have ready if a disaster should strike without warning:

Forms of Identification: These include driver’s licenses, medical insurance cards, Social Security cards, passports and birth certificates. While it is best to have originals, it is also important to have copies, in case originals are misplaced or destroyed.

Checks and Deposit Slips: Even if you rarely write checks, consider having your checking account number handy. That way you can authorize an important payment over the phone. If you do rely on checks, have enough blank checks and deposit slips to last a month or so.

ATM Cards, Debit Cards and Credit Cards: These cards give you access to cash and the ability to make payments on outstanding bills. Make sure you know your PIN numbers; do not write them down or carry them with the cards!

Cash: ATMs in affected areas may not be functioning, so it is a good idea to have cash available for necessary purchases. The amount will depend on the size of your family, your expected financial needs and your ability to use debit or credit cards to make purchases.

Phone Numbers for Financial Service Providers: Make a list of the local and toll-free numbers for your bank, credit card companies, mortgage lender, brokerage firms and insurance companies. You may need to contact these providers to defer a payment, replace lost cards or open a new account.

Account Numbers: These would include bank and brokerage account numbers, credit card numbers and auto and homeowner’s insurance policy numbers. Copy the front and back of your credit cards.

Safe Deposit Box Key: You cannot get into your safe deposit box without your key, no matter what forms of identification you present.

After you have gathered this information, store it in a safe, protected place. Do not leave it out in the open or in an unlocked drawer. Some identity theft victims have been “robbed” by family members or workers within their homes.

Vacation Safety & Security Tips For Your Family From JD Bank

JD Bank For Summer Vacation Fun

The kids are out of school, the inflatable pool is warming up in the backyard, and the mosquitos are stopping by in the evening to say hello! Yes, it is finally summer! That means it is time for the exodus to the pools and beaches. But before you hit the road for Wally World, you might take a moment to think about home and family security.

Social media is a great place to post vacation photos, but don’t post them until AFTER you return home. Posting photos or comments like “We are having a great time wrasslin’ crocs and sampling the fried gopher here in St. Oakmite, and glad we won’t be back at work for another week!” might as well tell criminals “Hey, we won’t be home for a few more days so help yourself to our belongings.” I know, you wouldn’t do that, but will your kids? If you use an “out of office” notification in your email or voicemail, you might consider not referencing vacation plans there, either.

Vacation tips from JD Bank

Before you hit the road, you may also consider taking all the credit cards, membership cards, ID’s, etc. out of your purse or wallet and take inventory. In the event your purse or wallet is lost or stolen it will be a lot easier to notify all the credit card companies and such if you know who to contact. A quick and easy way to do this is to take a photocopy of them (or a photo with your phone, IF you don’t keep your phone in your purse). Get images of both sides, since the contact info is usually on the reverse side.

Remove garage door opener remotes from vehicles parked outside or at airport lots. Most people have their home addresses somewhere in their vehicle (look in the glove compartment and see if you find your home address), and if you have a removable remote control in your car it is a simple matter for a criminal to break into the car and find your home address, then take the remote that will let them into your home.

If you have any hidden keys under a mat, behind a planter, under a rock, etc. then remove it. Most hiding spots are not as clever as we all want to believe, and a practiced criminal will find it.

Finally, do what you can to make your home look inhabited. Have a friend put out the trash, take in the newspaper (tell your kids what that is), have lights on timers, and maybe have a radio playing inside the house.

And don’t forget the bug spray. Have a great trip, and send us your worst vacation photos!
